(mm 2396.1) If you've walked the 0.3 miles from the south trailhead to NF-9041/hwy 906, then you should be in sight of Laconia Market across the street from the ski lodge.
The Laconia Market building is the original Laconia Train Station for the Milwaukee Railroad. The tracks used to run along what is now the NE edge of the road.
The station was only used from 1909-1916. When the tunnel from Rockdale to Hyak was completed, the much smaller Hyak station (also still standing) was used. Hyak is 2.8 miles SE from you. From 1909 to 1977 hikers and skiers could simply take the train to the pass.
The ski park was opened in 1934 as a municipal park owned and operated by the Seattle parks department. Though an extremely popular park, it was falling into disrepair and in 1940 Seattle voters chose to discontinue its funding by the city. Webb Moffett operated the park from 1942 to 1998.
