West of Moon and East of Sun

(mm2529.1) In the Glacier Peak Wilderness, on the north side of Milk Creek, is a mysterious red sign nailed to a tree. It's been there since at least 2002, likely longer.

The dates on the sign span 14 years, possilby the lifespan of someone, or a pet, or possibly some other significance.

The quote may be based on a version of The Walking Song from The Lord of the Rings. That line by Tolken seems borrowed from a Norwegian fairy tale about a polar bear, first publishd in 1849 and similar to tales from Finland, Sweden, and Russia. The Fairy tale title however, is 'East of the sun and west of the moon' so slightly different from the plaque.

The spelling of "Hart" may be a clue as well. Hart (without an e) is a male red deer.

There are no registered geocaches in the area.
