Detailed Trail Status by Section

This information comes from the last survey by the Sentinel-2 satellite.
As of July 20th, 2024, these are the known trail conditions:

Section L (north of Rainy Pass)

This section is completely clear of snow.
The Easy Fire is 1.5 miles west of mm 2608, discovered 7/17
That fire is directly on the NE side of SR20 and has been trying to jump to the other side of the highway. Check to see if SR20 is open before traveling from the west. If it is closed, you will need to travel from the east to Mazama.
The PCT is closed from Harts Pass to Grasshopper Pass (mm 2618). I wish they would stop closing the trail at points that have no exit point. The closest real exit point is at mm 2612, the Methow River, but that requires hiking 6 miles of closed trail.
Harts Pass is going to be the most common entry/exit point. Learn about Harts Pass road before you plan to drive it.
The hike-in entry point is the Robinson Creek Trail which effectively takes you to Harts Pass (just a bit north of there).
This section has no difficult stream crossings.
Winds to the NW mean that Section L has better air quality than other WA sections.

Section K, North (Suiattle Bridge to Rainy Pass)

Completely clear of snow, even around Sitting Bull Mtn.
***There are 9 fires burning in the Suiattle River Valley.***
The official closure is north of Mica Lake mm2524, but there are no exit points there.
The Suiattle River is not a viable entry/exit point this year.
Northbounders should exit the trail at 2506 to the west via the North Fork Sauk River.
Southbounders should hike back to Rainy Pass or exit the trail at 2554.5 to the east via Lyman Lake and Railroad Creek to Lucerne.
Stehekin is threatened by the Pioneer Fire and is under evacuation warning so may not be a great exit option.
This section has no difficult stream crossings.
The AQI in this area is around 60.

Section K, South (Steven Pass to Suiattle Bridge)

See closure info above.
One small patch of snow at 2503.5 south of Red Pass
Insignificant patches north of Red Pass for one mile.
Patches above Mica Lake from 2521 to the lake (which is still frozen over).
Then completely clear to Suiattle Pass.
Because of the trail closure, I assume no one is crossing Kennedy Creek.
Rapid River Fire - 1.25 acres 1.1 miles West of mm 2476, discovered 7/17
Shoofly Fire - 105 acres 2.1 miles East of mm 2483.8, discovered 7/8

Section J (Snoqualmie Pass to Stevens Pass)

This section is completely clear of snow.
The only place where snow touches the trail is on the north side of Alaska Mountain (2405), and even there neither spikes nor axe are needed.
Use caution crossing Lemah Creek (2417) and No-Name Creek (2444.5)

Section I, North (Naches Pass to Snoqualmie Pass)

This section is completely clear of snow.

Section I, Mid (Chinook Pass to Naches Pass)

Completely clear of snow, even at Chinook Pass and Sourdough Gap

Section I, South (White Pass to Chinook Pass)

This section is completely clear of snow.

Section H, North (Goat Rocks, Midway to White Pass)

Spotty insignificant snow on the east slope of Hogback Mtn, north of the Shoe Lake ridge.
Goat Rocks: significant snow between 2278.5 - 2283.5
Insignificant snow patches south of Cispus Pass for one mile.

Section H, Mid (Mt Adams, Williams Mine to Midway)

Entire section is clear of snow.
Snow is no longer touching the trail around Mt Adams.
Use caution crossing Adams Creek (2245.4)

Section H, South (Columbia River to Williams Mine (Trout Lake))

Entire section is clear of snow.
Indian Heaven is now snow free.
Smoke from Oregon is causing air quality issues for all of WA.
