local_fire_department Fires

There are no known fires within 10 miles of the PCT in Washington.

  • The Hamilton Fire in Winthrop was luckily controlled by 6/30 and is no longer a potential threat to State Route 2 or Mazama.
  • The Loc Canyon Fire is 25 miles east of Goat Rocks and was detected on 7/1
  • The Swamp Creek Fire is 15 miles west of the PCT at mm 74 (Bridge Creek). It was started by a lightning strike on 6/25.
  • The Little Beaver Fire is 17 miles west of the PCT at mm 7 (Hopkins Lake). It was also started by a lightning strike on 6/25.

Section L (Canada to Rainy Pass)

  • Clear from the Canadian border to the usual field of snow above Devils Staircase (mm 7.75).
  • Insignificant patches until Woody Pass (mm 11) where there will be a short patch on the trail.
  • Snow on the last switchback up Rock Pass (mm 12.5)
  • Large patches of snow on the NE slope approaching Windy Pass (mm 24)
  • A patch climbing the east ridge of Tatie Peak (mm 33.5), then three larger patches on the east slope of Tatie peak (mm 35.5-36.5)
  • Small patches on Grasshopper Pass (mm 37.5)
  • Then clear to Granite Pass (mm 54) where there will be snow, with more large snow fields over Cutthroat Pass ending after the switchbacks into Porcupine Creek Valley (mm 57.5)
  • ! Washout at mm 52.6 the trail is washed out over a steep slope, less than 2 miles south of Methow Pass.

Southbound thru hikers with a permit-dictated start date who wish to give the trail a few more days to melt can move toward the Canada border via the Robinson Creek alternate route which is entirely snow free.

Section K North (Rainy Pass to NF Sauk River)

  • Completely snow free from Rainy Pass, past High Bridge, all the way to Suiattle Pass.
  • Within the NCNP the PCT has been cleared of trees except between Six Mile Camp and Maple Creek suspension bridge.
  • A temporary suspension bridge has been installed over Maple Creek at mm 71
  • ! Bridge is out over Agnes Creek at Hemlock Camp mm 93 (This seems like a big deal and I'm eager to learn more).
  • Debris on trail from an avalanche below Plummer Mtn. at mm 103 just before crossing Miners Creek and after Suiattle Pass.
  • Logs have been cleared for 8.25 miles south of High Bridge.
  • Insignificant snow patches near Suiattle Pass.
  • Windfalls, windfalls, and more windfalls.
  • Clear of snow from Suiattle pass to Vista Ridge (mm 120).
  • The Suiattle River bridge is in good shape.
  • Significant sloped snow fields from Vista Ridge to White Pass Camp (mm 150)
  • Kennedy Creek and White Chuck River valleys are clear.
  • Note, Where the NF Sauk River Trail connects with the PCT there is White Pass and Red Pass. This is not the White Pass on highway 12 and it's not the Red Pass near Kendall Katwalk.

Section K South (NF Sauk River to Stevens Pass)

  • Snow on and off until north of Janus Lake.
  • Expect significant blow-downs in this section.
  • Stevens Pass opened for summer operations on 2026 June 20th. That means you can get food and chairlift rides.

Section J (Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass)

  • Lots of blowdowns.
  • ! Rockslide across the trail just north of Josephine Lake.
  • Lacking trip reports for this section, there may be snow at Trap Lake.
  • Expect snow at Pieper Pass.
  • Clear from Deception Pass to Park Lakes
  • ! Bridge is out at Waptus River mm 224.5
  • From Park Lakes to Kendall Katwalk status is UNKNOWN.
  • From the Katwalk to I-90 is clear.

Section I, North (Snoqualmie Pass to Naches Pass)

  • This section is completely clear.

Section I, Mid (Naches Pass to Chinook Pass)

  • This section is completely clear.

Section I, South (Chinook Pass to White Pass)

  • This section is completely clear.

Section H, North (White Pass to Midway)

  • Expect snow at the top of the ski resort and past Shoe Lake.
  • Expect snow starting at mm 372 continuing around Elk Pass mm 373.5
  • Knifes Edge is completely clear.
  • Snow as soon as you leave Knifes Edge at 375.5 (~7080 ft) you'll hit mostly snow until 377.5 (~6440 ft) from Old Snowy to the Cispus River crossing.
  • Snow from the Cispus River crossing to the ridge south of Cispus Pass.
  • Clear from Cispus Pass to Midway.

Section H, Mid (Midway to Williams Mine)

  • This section is completely clear.

Section H, South (Williams Mine to Columbia River)

  • This section is completely clear.
